blogvader:
That is, if every Christian in this country cared more about adhering to the core concepts of Christ’s teachings (unconditional love and forgiveness) rather than religious dick-measuring contests, demonizing the poor and those they perceive to be sinners, and fighting over who’s Jesus is best.
Think about it. If all of these religious teabaggers were out there fighting for universal health care instead of walking up to wheelchair-bound protesters and disdainfully tossing dollar bills at them, if we lived in a country where no one had to go bankrupt to stay alive, we might be (sort of) a Christian country.
What if they took the action that Jesus supposedly took when the adulterer was about to get stoned to death? Instead of standing around fucking with people for their sex lives, what if they had the balls to stand up for people or admit that they themselves are every bit as sexual (just usually in secret) as the people they demonize? Sex shouldn’t be a big deal, but it is, because we’re a country of Christians who don’t fucking act Christian.
And then there’s the warmongering, the cuts to food stamps, and the public subsidizing corporate profits, among other things. Would Jesus really think it’s a good idea to send drone missiles after innocent people? What about assassinating sixteen year old kids? Do you think Jesus would be cool with torture? (Probably a sore spot with Jesus, no pun intended.)
If ours is indeed a Christian country, then the Christians have failed miserably.
fantastic thoughts, ryan stevens.
