Apparently some very thick people take offense to my previous blog heading so whatever. Here’s how it is: If you and I are in a discussion, I will be remaining relatively calm, I will keep personal attacks away, but I will not consider what you are saying unless you provide some good information. Barring that, I expect the respect I give. You don’t have to like me or agree with me, but if you act like I child with me, your opinion becomes less valid.

Privilege alone does not invalidate an opinion, just as lack of privilege does not validate an opinion. Further, a privileged person does not necessarily have an uninformed opinion, just as a person without privilege does not necessarily have an informed opinion. Phrases like “check your privilege” are designed merely to shame someone into one way (i.e. YOUR way) of thinking.

So very true, especially on Tumblr.  When someone says “check your privilege”, it reminds me of a five year old refusing to breathe until their parents will buy them that shiny toy or tasty candy bar that they want.
